Hundreds of thousands of people visit De Hoge Veluwe National Park annually. With the safety of all these visitors in mind, all important buildings in the park are equipped with an AED from AED-Partner. All supervisors also have an AED in their car, and there is a special number to mobilize them in case of an emergency. Recently, the De Hoge Veluwe National Park Foundation expanded this AED network. Gerard van Voorst, Financial Controller and Head of BHV (Company Emergency Response) at the park, explains:

“We consider the safety of our visitors very important. We want an AED to be available wherever the public can access. This is quite a challenge in a park of 5,400 hectares. For comparison, that's as large as 11,000 football fields! That's why we've had 6 extra AEDs installed at the outdoor facilities.”

An outdoor challenge

AED-Partner advised the foundation on the most suitable AEDs. An engineering firm was also involved for the precise placement of these defibrillators. After consultation, it was decided to install an AED inside near all three entrances. The remaining three AEDs were to be placed outside near three lodges. This presented a greater challenge. Due to the slanting external walls and the monumental status of the lodges, external mounting was unfortunately not possible. It was also necessary to connect the AEDs to a permanent power supply (230V). After research and consultation, the decision was made to mount the AEDs on a sturdy pedestal (with a concrete base).

The foundation is pleased with the expansion. Van Voorst: “The additional AEDs are all easily accessible and contribute to the safety of our visitors. Fortunately, we haven't had to use our AEDs often in the past. Hopefully, it stays that way!”
