On Saturday, October 11, the referee of a football match in Tessenderlo (Belgium) was successfully resuscitated with an AED. The man suddenly lost consciousness during a youth match between football clubs Thes Sport and Belisia Bilzen. Thanks to the quick action of bystanders, he could be resuscitated.

In a news article on VRT NWS, Serge Smets, one of the helpful bystanders, tells about it: “At first, I thought he had stumbled or was injured. But when we saw that something serious was happening, we ran to the man as quickly as possible. Together with the delegate from Belisia, we placed him in a safe position and later also performed heart massage.”

Help also came from the supporters' corner. For example, a nurse who was present helped with the use of the AED, among other things. After the resuscitation, the referee was taken to the hospital and it is now known that he is on the mend.

A prime example of how acting quickly and decisively in emergencies saves lives!
